Hedgehogs were introduced into New Zealand to be a darling garden companion. European immigrants thought hedgehogs would make New Zealand feel far less exotic.

Unfortunately, hedgies also like to eat kiwi bird eggs as well as native invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians and other ground nesting birds.
