Praying mantises are such a wonderful insect with their googly eyes and strange slow movement...a smile is always brought to me face whenever I find one in the wild.
I came across a story that surprised me. Praying mantises sometimes hang out on hummingbird feeders or trumpet vines and have enough strength and dexterity to catch and eat hummingbirds. I couldn’t bear to make a woodcut of a mantis actually eating a hummingbird...but was happy to make them lurking.
