The inspiration behind the piece~
Wyoming Toads are a glacial relic. Their ancestors moved south ahead of the advancing ice swaths while a small population hunkered down in the Laramie River basin.
Wyoming toad populations in the wild are very low. They hover around 100 individuals. There is a fairly successful breeding program in captivity which has a population around 500 individuals but either way their numbers are precarious. I spoke with Val Hornyak who is a herpetologist at the Toledo zoo, she mentioned one problem too with studying toads is they are not an enigmatic mammal so finding funding can be difficult.
Enjoy! Save our endangered animals!
