The Carolina Parakeet was the only native parrot species in the Eastern United States. It lived in large flocks and was a raucous bird. People didn't always like them on their properties because they would eat up all the crops in sight. Not unlike another bird I make a lot of woodcuts about, the starling.
The last known bird died in the Cincinnati zoo in 1918. A pair of parakeets lived there for 35 years.
