"Mackerel Cart" Original woodcut

People who use to make a living as a fisherman in Newfoundland are unable to do so now because there are so few fish in the sea. And, there has been a moratorium on cod fishing for ten years. 2006 was the first year you could catch a cod and keep it. Cod used to be the mainstay of Newfoundland fishers. Many small villages whose economies were based on fishing are suffering, it is harder to keep people in small towns if there are no jobs. Many folks are flocking to the cities and abandoning whole villages.
