I was recently asked, “do you have any work about where you live” and my answer was no, not very much! So this is a tribute to fall in upstate NY. And also about how if we put more asters and goldenrods in vases, and they became a more popular flower in arrangements maybe they would come to be more important in our gardens? Both plants are a gold mine to pollinators. Especially in the fall, as many flowers are winding down asters and goldenrods are just starting to put on a show. It's possible that the colors the yellow of the goldenrod and the purple of the asters makes it way more attractive to pollinators.
Robin Wall Kimmerer who wrote Braiding Sweetgrass says in the book one of her inspirations for becoming a botanist was to figure out the relationship of these plants together.
