The Sargasso Sea is a unique environment, it is a sea that has no land boundaries and is defined by different currents that surround it. Sargassum seaweed floats around and provides a safe harbor for many endemic animals that call the place home plus creates a nursery for a wide array of creatures to grow up in a calm, safe space.
The animals I chose to portray in this piece include flying fish, whale sharks, green turtles, Sargassum angler fish, lined seahorses, Sargassum shrimp and an octopus. Baby sea turtles can spend up to a decade in the sargasso sea. I didn't include them, but, baby eels also spend a lot of time in the Sargasso. For years people did not know where baby eels hatched, many species start their lives in the Sargasso. Little is known about whale shark reproduction, but, they are found gliding through the sargasso on a regular basis.
There are so many endemic species that live in this watery wonderland. They cannot be found anywhere else in the world. They spend much of their time crawling along the sargassum hunting for food. The protrusion on their head is used as a lure for enticing fish to get close, and then they eat them up.
I am hoping to sell this one mostly as a set, but, understand that some folks may want to just have each piece separately.
