Hummingbirds use spider silk in their nests for strength. When I heard this story I knew I had to make a woodcut about it. How cute is an image of a hummingbird grabbing bits of spider silk and building the tiniest nest with it? They also use bits of lichen and moss to make it extra soft. Bird nests are such interesting structures.
This species is a stylized broad tailed hummingbird and the flower in the background is a fireweed.
