Have you ever seen a whale and wondered what do they eat? Humpbacks specialize in eating plankton, krill and schools of tiny fish. How does an animal the length of a school bus survive on such tiny tidbits? An average-sized humpback whale will eat 4,400-5,500 pounds of food daily. Wow, that is a lot of creatures.
I did a lot of googling of plankton to make this piece. They are such wonderful animals. So cute with wild shapes. A little claw there, a funny eye stalk there, a bunch of tentacles here, just amazing. These whales look so joyful running into a band of plankton.
I made this piece using 2 blocks that I carved and printed and carved and printed then overlapped to get it to this scale. I would not be able to register a block this size and print it because I tell ya, woodblocks are heavy!
