The hawkmoth is an unusual pollinator, sometimes they look like a bird, sometimes they look like a plane (just kidding). It's even more unusual if it has a 10"-13" tongue! Charles Darwin discovered an orchid in Madagascar that has a 10-13” nectar tube and noted in a journal, “good heavens what insect can suck it?” 40 years later another scientist discovered the hawk moth with the tongue that pollinates this plant. Because it’s native habitat is Madagascar I had to include a chameleon and a tree frog with giant eyeballs too.

Science takes a long time. This insect Xanthopan praedicta wasn't even seen pollinating the plant until the 1990's.
